Tinker, Baker, Diplomat, Spy

Take a look at my Washington Monthly story on former Secretary of State James Baker's Iraq Study Group. It's called "A Higher Power." It raises the question: Can anyone, even Jim Baker, get through to the president about the catastrophe in Iraq?

Fascinating article, I hadn't heard of this group. I wonder if the "withdrawl" they are contemplating means pack up and go home or pack up and go home except for four those super-size military bases.

This report is perhaps the most encouraging news about the Iraq situation since its inception as an international embarrassment to the United States. I am surprised that it hasn't attracted more attention. It's encouraging to believe that while Mr. Bush - as recently as yesterday - continues to speak the most amazing lies about Iraq there's a serious effort underway to choke-off his power if not his rhetoric.
